Hobsonville lashed by tornado, Sirocco to found aid agency

Hobsonville-Whenuapai, Auckland, New Zealand, Dec 6 – The New Zealand city of Auckland was lashed today by a major storm that claimed the lives of three people after a tornado touched down in the suburbs of Hobsonville and Whenuapai. Three people were killed and seven injured after the tornado struck around 1pm NZDT this afternoon. Power poles and trees were ripped out of the ground and houses extensively damaged, especially along the Hobsonville street of Wallingford Way, which saw every house in the street damaged in some form. Temperatures plummet across Sirocco, records set

Alston, NCD, Aug 17 –¬†Alston shivered overnight as temperatures dropped below zero for the first time in memory. Alston residents woke up this morning to blankets of frost across the Alston Domain, Line Park and Mosgiel Green and mist rising from the Garden River. Most attention, however, was given to the National Monument to Birds in the Domain, which had frozen over for the first time ever. Heavy rain causes high water

Ianson Island, NCD, Jan 23 – Heavy rain falling across New Zealand’s North Island has seen surface flooding in many areas, including the National Capital District which has been inundated by floodwaters. Lastest conditions by Sirmet show heavy rainfall over the last few days has seen 200mm dumped on the region in the last few days. This deluge was too much for some waterways which have risen by as much as three feet in a matter of hours.
