Picayune closing down

The Alston Picayune, 15/11/2010 – 10/07/2011

It is with a heavy heart that I must announce the closing of the Alston Picayune.

Since its establishment on November 15, 2010, the Picayune was the source of opinion and world news (well almost that second one), but throughout its history the Times has always been the dominant newspaper, and it is because of this and the fact that the Picayune has not been well-used throughout its near-eight-month tenure that I announce today’s closure of this news service.

The Commonwealth Avenue section, the Picayune’s most well-known section, will now be carried by the Times. The Picayune website will not close down, instead it will become an archive, just as the former Times website is.

I would like to thank the readers of the Picayune for contributing to the success of the news service, and I hope you understand why I had to make the unfortunate call.
