Havilland, WE, Aug 9 · 25 Trinity 77 – Sirocco has recorded its first cases of COVID-19, with the Premier, Mr. Anderson, confirmed as one of the nation’s first cases.

The Ministry of Health stated that two cases of the disease have been confirmed following Rapid Antigen Tests (RATs) conducted yesterday. One citizen tested positive yesterday afternoon, while the Premier tested positive around 9 PM last night.

It is believed that both were likely infected at the same time.

The Premier’s Office said in a brief statement that the Premier is recovering at home after falling ill late Sunday night.

“The Premier started feeling unwell shortly before midnight on Sunday, and woke up yesterday morning with a severe headache and feeling very weak. He is recovering and this morning is already showing clear signs of improvement. He will be isolating for a period of at least seven days in line with public health requirements.”

The other citizen has not been publicly identified, but the Ministry says that they are also recovering, and have begun their seven-day isolation.

Both were confirmed to have had all required doses of the COVID-19 vaccination.

Sirocco had until this week been able to avoid the arrival of COVID-19, partly due to strict regulations implemented in New Zealand since March 2020. In that time, Sirocco has closed its borders and implemented lockdowns several times, and introduced public health requirements including the wearing of face masks, social distancing, and mandatory vaccinations.
